Cute little Craft or Teaching Two Little Boys to Sew

The kiddos in my class are fortunate enough to get to know Ms. Jeanne. Ms. Jeanne is an art therapist who comes to my room every Tuesday and Thursday and does awesome, wonderful, great things with my kids. She spreads their wings to have them try new things and this year for Thanksgiving the boys were sewing. Ms. Jeanne taught them how to sew an adorable little pumpkin to sit on their families Thanksgiving table. The were so proud of their work and were concentrating so hard on what they were doing. One of my little buddies who wears glasses had his glasses pushed down on the end of his nose librarian style to be able to see the eye of the needle to thread his needle and was concentrating so hard. When I noticed him trying and trying and missing multiple times I said "Hey buddy you want me to help you?" His response was "I got this Ms. B!" How cute is that determination!

This year I am thankful for Ms. Jeanne and all the wonderfullness (is that a word?) she brings to my students lives!

Work Update

Summer is officially over and I am back to work. I love love love having my summers off but one of the hardest things about teaching is having to get back in the swing of getting up and going to work every morning. Mitch and the rest of the non-teaching world have no sympathy for me and my struggles at returning to work so it is nice to get back to work and have others to commiserate with....ha ha...

Mitch is a few weeks into his new job with the street department and it is WONDERFUL! He gets done with work everyday at 3:00 and only works 40 hours a week, this is such a HUGE improvement over the hours he was previously working. Hopefully his new hours will mean the remodel will get done before we are retired!

Life is good in the Bowman/Johnson Household!

Feed My Starving Children

Mitch and I went to volunteer tonight in Chanhassen at the Feed my Starving Children organization. This is a Christian based organization that collects donations and uses volunteers to pack boxes of food for children in less fortunate areas of the world. The process is pretty simple, you show up pack food and it is shipped off that same week to missionaries who deliver it to children all over the world.

Mitch's work has organized this event for the second time since Mitch has worked for the city and I have done it two other times with my students as well. I have had fun in both settings. My students had a ton of fun when we went and realized they can have just as much fun going and giving back. This is just what I believe in as a teacher and who I want my students to become a giving, caring person. It is such a hands on way to give back, it creates an even warmer feeling in my heart than just writing a check.

Here is a quick video (3 minutes) about what this organization is all about and the website if you want to donate time or money...I highly recommend it! Ohhh and you get to wear sweet hairnets so it really is a win/win situation! The picture is a picture of me and one of my cuties and our hot hairnets when we were packing meals this year.
