I bought a plant...

Now for most people this would not require any sort of discussion, buying a plant would not be that big of a deal, but for me this is huge. I was born and raised by a plant killer. My mother killed all plants in her path for many years, it became a family joke that my Grandma would head south for the winter and drop beautiful plants off with my mother to care for while she was gone and by the time Gradma came home she would have to completely start over because they would all be dead. As time has gone on my mom has gotten significantly better with plants which leads me to believe I have a chance at not being a plant killer as well. So far not so good though...

On my first day of teaching last year Mitch's parents sent me a beautiful Peace Lily to keep in my classroom. I immediately turned the responsibility over to the much more capable elementary aged kiddos to care for and it was doing great, during all school vacations last year I sent it home with one of the paraprofessionals who I work with. She was even willing to take it over the summer as I was unsure how I could deal with it. So I had a plant for over a year and it was still alive, mind you I really didn't do any of its care at all, but it didn't matter the plant was mine and it was still alive. The problem occurred when over Christmas vacation this year no one could take care of my plant for me and I was all of a sudden responsible for this poor doomed Lily. Within the two week Christmas vacation I had completely killed it the poor lily and had to throw it away.

My mom then decided my front steps looked awfully drab this spring and needed some sprucing up, and she was very thoughtful and bought me some Gerbera Daisies and a Fuchsia to put outside. Within a week and a half they followed the Lilly to plant heaven.

I am determined though....after I went and signed my name on the dotted line this morning and put an offer on the house that I would love to make my home I drove by it again, and for some reason, (maybe I was too distracted by the hardwood floors) I didn't notice all the flowers and shrubs and plants around the house that will need to be cared for my none other then the world's best plant killer. So I headed right over to the hardware store and I bought myself another plant. I am going to read about this one and figure out what I need to do to keep it alive, because if I can't keep just this one alive how on earth am I going to care for that beautiful yard I hope to one day own. Everyone pray for the safety of this plant, it may be on its last days...
